Retirees, what a great turnout at the demonstration
yesterday! First of all the weather was perfect and the unions were well
prepared with shirts, signs, and food. Our Police Dept. did there usual great
job of keeping everything moving and in good order. I know I don't only speak
for myself when I say that we certainly got our message across, and in a most
professional way.
I was impressed with the
turnout of our retired members. So many took the time to come out and support
our active members. We are all on the same team and we know that in the
future we could all be affected by any contractual changes. Let us all
remain committed by attending the open meetings. In this way we will stay in the
loop and provide support as needed!

VOLUNTEER
REQUEST TO ASSIST PATIENT AIRLIFT SERVICES
I would like to ask for the
assistance of any active or retired members who would like to donate some of
their free time to help a great non-profit organization – Patient Airlift
Services. Patient Airlift Services
(PALS) needs volunteer drivers from the metropolitan area to help us in their
effort to provide free transportation to patients or military personnel.
PALS is a non-profit that arranges free air transportation for people who
need medical treatment, diagnosis or transplantation who cannot afford to, or
are unable to fly commercially. PALS
arranges flights throughout the Northeast, flying in and out of smaller,
regional airports. Whenever
possible, PALS tries to arrange ground transportation to and from the airport.
If you would like to assist with ground transportation, (basically
driving patients, their families, or military personnel to and from Republic
Airport) please call 888-818-1231 or go to the Volunteer link on our website www.palservices.org.
This organization is active helping wounded warriors from Iraq and
Afghanistan who need air transportation. Here is an
excerpt from their newsletter showing how they helped 5 wounded warriors.
PALS Flies
Wounded Warriors
In
September, PALS had the honor of arranging flights for five active duty, combat
wounded Marines from Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda MD. Command
Pilot, Joe Howley flew the group, who are all Purple Heart recipients and
currently in rehabilitation at Walter Reed, to Boston to attend a Patriots vs.
Chargers game and back to Maryland the next day. The trip was part of a program
coordinated by volunteers to fulfill “wishes” for wounded service men and
women. The special experience enables wounded soldiers to leave the hospital
environment, boosting spirits and facilitating recovery. A big "Thank
You!" to the New England Patriots for donating the tickets.
If you have any questions or would like me to e-mail you a
copy of their newsletter feel free to e-mail me at pi_djp@yahoo.com
.
Thank you
