From:
Retired Sergeant Tom Waring
Hello again from beautiful snowy upstate New York. Since the last
time I wrote, I have become the unofficial poster boy for
colonoscopies or at least making sure all my friends get
examined when the doctor tells them it’s time. I went for my
first one in the beginning of November, at age 61; should
have had it done in my 50’s at least. Anyway I had a few
polyps removed during the procedure BUT, the doc told me I
have a large one that would have to be removed surgically and
soon. As far as he could tell from the sample biopsy it was
benign but most likely pre-cancerous. I had no idea anything
was going on inside of my gut, no indication or pain. I
didn’t waste any time seeing a surgeon. In early
December the surgery was done by a laparoscopic procedure,
10” of colon removed along with offending polyp and
appendix. After a
three-day hospital stay, and recovery of a couple weeks at
home, I am happy to report I am feeling great and back to
normal; all was benign. Anyway my point for all of this is not
looking for sympathy (I know I got away easy compared to some)
but to encourage anyone who is 50 or better or with a family
history of polyps to not put off the colon exam.
It was not as big a deal as I had thought it would be.
Prep is the worst part and I don't even remember the
rest of it. I am even feeling well enough to shovel snow
again. Wishing all my friends at the SOA a happy and
HEALTHY New Year. Tom Waring. Saratoga Springs NY.

Hi
all. I retired from the Seventh Precinct in 1994 and moved to
Greenacres, (yes, Greenacres) Florida. I have been working for
the Palm Beach County Public Safety Department since 1997. I
am an Investigator assigned to the Division of Consumer
Affairs. Florida has been wonderful. I still stay in touch
with a number of retired folks and active ones too. Hope to
get to the annual Orlando reunion one day. My e mail is cliffandcheryl@comcast.net.
Feel free to e mail. Cliff Burke.
