Whose dog is this? We may never know unless the dog has identification…
Sometimes we can get separated from our pets, and they can get lost. Since your dog can't talk, he can't tell anyone where he belongs. That's why it's important to have identification.
Your dog should have an ID tag or collar on him at all times that provides information such as his name, address and/or phone number. This will tell anyone who finds him where he lives and how to contact his owner, you. Some dogs even have microchips inserted under their skin, as a means of permanent identification.
If your dog ever does get lost, an ID tag is a good way to increase the chance that he gets back to you. It is also a good idea to call local animal shelters and put up posters if your dog is missing.
Many lost dogs end up at the shelter. Many other dogs end up at the shelter when their owners decide they no longer want them, or can no longer take care of them. To make sure you are able to care for a dog, click here.
